Window Styles

Awning

A window that is made up of numerous top-hinged pieces that are organized in a vertical sequence and are specifically made to admit air while keeping out rain. It is controlled by one or more control mechanisms that swing the bottom edges of the sections outward.

Bay

A bay window is a window area that extends outward from a building’s main walls to create a bay in a space. This is often made up of three window pieces that are shaped like hinges.

Bow

A curving bay window with an arch similar to a bow from a bow and arrow.

Casement

A window with a crank and one or more side hinges holding it to the frame. Within a single frame, they may be used alone or in pairs, in which case they are hinged on the exterior.

Double Hung

Two windows with stackable movable sashes (the part of the window that holds the pane). As a result, both sashes may open simultaneously, and the window can move down from the top and up from the bottom.

Sliding

Window with two sashes, at least one of which slides beyond the other horizontally. Enables top to bottom ventilation in its entirety. They are a great option for rooms with front pathways, porches, or decks because the sash does not extend outward.

Historic

Older Victorian-style homes frequently include stained glass or cross-hatch grille designs. These more cost-effective choices from Andersen’s A Series are renowned for preserving the architectural windows’ appeal.

Hopper

A little window with an inward and downward opening. It is frequently put as a window in a bathroom or basement. The window glass pane’s upward tilt prevents open dirt and debris from entering your house. Usually, a crank or hinge may be used to open it.

Fixed

These windows don’t open and are fixed. They may be made in greater sizes and are thus more energy-efficient than windows with vents. To improve the perspective, combinations are frequently employed.

Sidelight

A door side window or an additional window.

Transom

A window that is built over the transom, the beam that divides the top of the window or door from the rest of the wall.

Door Styles

Bulkhead

An outwardly extending structure with a sloping entrance leading to a shaft or basement stairs.

Double Entry

A space having two vertical doors that, when closed, meet in the center of the space.

Dutch

A door that can be opened and closed in two sections by splitting it horizontally. This allows you to have only half be shut while leaving the other open for ventilation and visibility.

French

A door with glass panes running the majority of its length that is typically one pair in size. Typically, patio doors consist of two French doors.

Sliding Patio

Sliding doors, usually used as back patio doors, are doors that slide open and shut as opposed to swinging on hinges.

Pocket

A sliding internal door that, when completely opened, blends into a space in the next wall. When a hinged door can’t swing open, or for aesthetic purposes, pocket doors are usually installed.

Screen

A screen-covered outside door with hinges that prevent insets and allows for proper ventilation and air movement.

Single Entry

A door with only one vertical opening.

Storm

Similar to a screen door, a storm door is a hinged exterior door with glass to keep out wind, rain, and snow while preserving visibility.
